"Very few of us have an understanding...

of the reason why Jesus Christ died. If sympathy is all the human beings need, then the cross of Christ is an absurdity and there is absolutely no need for it. What the world needs is not, "a little bit of love," but major surgery...If you think you are helping lost people with your sympathy and understanding, you are a traitor to Jesus Christ. You must have a right standing relationship with Him yourself, and pour your life out in helping others in His way-not in a human way that ignores God...The calling of the New Testament worker is to expose sin and to reveal Jesus Christ as Savior. Consequently, he can not alaways be charming and friendly, but must be willing to be stern to accompolish major surgery. We are sent by God to lift up Jesus Christ...And we must be sharply intent on sensing those Scrupture passages that will drive the truth home, and then not be afraid to apply them." Oswald Chambers

The Lord once revealed to me, and I have spoken of it before, and that is ADOPTION IS EVANGELISM! If we adopt because of sympathy then we are missing the point. If we adopt to meet only physical needs then again, we are missing the point. If we are adopting because of a dream then once again, we are missing the point. The point that Jesus is trying to make is His heart for Redemption!

"And He became the Savior. In all their suffering He also suffered, and He personally rescued them. IN HIS LOVE AND MERCY HE REDEEMED them." Isaiah 63:9

Great post!

I am so sad for the many people that adopt, and then parent, out of sympathy. I have seen some VERY spoiled adopted children because their parents brought them to America and took them straight to the Wal-Mart toy department to pick out anything they wanted. For several years, these parents have continued to give their children anything and everything they want, because they "feel sorry for them" and want to "make up for all that they experienced before America" or "give them everything, because they had nothing".

We did not adopt because of some emotional sermon. No, we adopted because God called us to. Plain and simple. We weren't out looking for another child to fill OUR need to parent. We weren't looking for another child at all. God called us ... we responded to His personal call on our life.

We brought 3 more children into our home ... to lead them to His saving grace.

You are so right. Thank you for speaking from your experience...and for not being afraid to speak the truth. Our calling (as believers) is more than just "loving on orphans"....it's bringing them to Jesus.
