Adopted "for such a time as this"

Remnant, according to the Nelson’s Bible Dictionary, is “the part of a community or nation that remains after a dreadful judgment or devastating calamity, especially those who have escaped to remain to form the nucleus of a new community.”

As I read through the book of Ezra today, I was struck by the ninth chapter verses eight through nine.

But now, for a brief moment grace has been shown from the Lord our God, to leave us an escaped remnant and to give us a peg in His holy place, that our God may enlighten our eyes and grant us a little reviving in our bondage. For we are slaves; yet in our bondage our God has not forsaken us, but has extended His lovingkindness to us.”

As I was thinking about the remnant that the Lord has always set aside throughout HIStory, I could not help but think that maybe our adopted children, many coming from sinful and lawless/godless countries are the remnant of the Lord. If this could be the case, then I pray that we will make it our chief aim to ground them in the goodness and lovingkindness of the Lord.

Esther was a relative of Mordecai who was a remnant spoken of in Ezra (2:2). The Lord used Esther in an amazing way, “who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this.” And we all know that God used Esther to save the Jewish people from slaughter. It is my prayer, that the Lord will use my Ugandan children to one day reach their own people, bringing “a little reviving” in the midst of bondage to satan/witchcraft.

On a side note, a peg is a ‘bronze tent pin driven into the ground to secure the cords of the tabernacle court.’ Today our peg is Jesus Christ, “And the Word became flesh and tabernacled among us” John 1:14

Can I just share that I get excited when you post! Your passion, your heart, your vibrant faith oozes from your words and spills into my life. As we begin our path to adoption, your words are sunny encouragement to our day. Yes Lord, we're willing and ready to bring the remnant home, training them for your Kingdom.

Blessings,
