Is that really what He said?

I am going to be very honest in this post--not to point a finger, but rather to expose a lie that the enemy has used from the beginning.

"Has God really said that..." Genesis 3:1.

The enemy has added to the Word from the time of Adam and Eve. And he knows that when we begin to question the Word of God we will subtly turn away from it's sufficiency.

With the foundation layed, let me give you an example. The majority of our children were adopted--but, remember, according to Ephesians 1:4 we are all orphans, adopted into God's family through Christ-- and people often assume that we must deal with them differently that our two biological children. NO! We believe that Jesus Christ is THE COUNSELOR. On a side note, I am not against counseling, as long it is based 100% on scripture. There is the assumption, however, that we have read adoption manuals, books by specialists, etc. NO! We have THE MANUAL and it is called "the living and active Word of God." Hebrews 4:12


From day one our kids, as far as they are able to understand, are expected to obey--"honor your mother and father so that it will go well with you." We believe, just like Paul, "forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead." Philipians 3:13. In our family, just like God's, there is neither adopted or biological (Colossians 3:11).

"God forbid that I should boast except in the

cross of our Lord Jesus Christ..."

Galatians 6:14.

As we continue to resist the lie of the enemy, that the Word is not enough, we have seen amazing changes in all of our children. Their sins are promptly dealt with (Proverbs 13:4) and they are continually brought back to the cross--"Jesus died on the cross so that you will no longer be in bondage to your sin, (i.e. lying, hitting, grumbling, disrespect...)".


And although we have been labeled as "strict," we see it as keeping our kids under the perimeters of God's Word. One day they will be under the control of the Spirit of the living God, but until that day we have been called to train our children in the Word--when they awake, walk, sit and lie down. I find it interesting that this same word, 'train,' used in Proverbs, is the same word for the "the outermost garment or covering worn by the Hebrew people."

"So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it." Isaiah 55:11

We can raise our kids on the empty words of the world, but we have something far better, the Word of God that will never return void.

Yes, God really did say that!
