Please join us in prayer as we begin ministering to the Acholi people of Northern Uganda. These people have experienced so much pain and witnessed evil beyond description. JESUS CHRIST is longing to draw them to Himself and heal their broken souls.

It is official.
We are now "officially" settled into our new home. The bunk beds are set-up, the homeschool shelf is organized and a routine has been set in motion. Life is quite different in the North. We have found that our daily schedule revolves around the heat. Zane, as an early riser, opens up the house to let in the cool morning breeze. By 7am the children and I crawl out from under our mosquito nets. Breakfast is on the table around 8:30 am. After eating, the children do their chores and get in a little play time before the heat becomes all consuming. From 10am-12am the children sit in the "dining/school" room for the days lessons. After lunch at 1pm, we begin to slow down, at this point in the day, the heat is overwhelming. The children enjoy a movie, coloring, games/puzzles, all in a sort of "slow motion" daze. I joked with Zane this afternoon that anyone who claims to have a "hyper active" son/daughter would love the effect heat has on a child. By 5pm the sun begins to set and the children spend the next hour running around outside--although they still drip with sweat. There is definitely no complaining when cold showers come around. It is still quite warm by 8pm, but the children crawl back under their nets and fall asleep to the lull of the fan.

Reminds me of my weeks in Liberia... oh that HEAT! LOL!
Praying for your new ministry!

I am so excited for your family. Sorry about the heat though!
We spent a month in Ghana during the HOTTEST part of the year. Yes ... not much energy in the afternoon.
Glad you are getting settled, and into a routine.
Blessings,
Laurel :)
Thank you for sharing the love and Good News of Jesus Christ with these precious people...

I am so glad that you are now setteled and will soon be working with the Acholi people. I know that it is only God who can heal their hearts! Bless you for following where He leads you. I know it won't be easy, but God promises to reward, and His rewards are the best!
I will be heading up to Arua tomorrow for three days. Wish I could stop in and meet you, but I am traveling by bus. I had hoped to visit your family while you were staying in Kampala, but we were in the process of shifting the orphanage, and it became all-consuming, with a lot of challenges - but our faithful God has seen us through! I still hope to meet you someday soon!
oh those big bellies... any meds/protein/etc for them?
prayers are lifted up for you and yours and the acholi people.
i thought Jinja was pretty hot. the times we were in Entebbe i was amazed at the difference between the two in temperature and rain. Entebbe was so cool comparatively speaking of course.
I am so glad that you are now settling into a routine...I can not image the heat..hne my daughter was in Ghana in December she said it was very hot, and in the mornings she would be in shorts and her village family in blankets...they thought she was crazy for being warm..She figured it was prob around 75 in mornings..but duriing the day so much hotter...that for them the morning are was cold!..They better not come to Oregon in the winter..haha So do you have genorators there? you mentioned watching movies??? Do you need kids movies? do you watch dvd's or vhs's? So many questions..so little time huh!..Blessings on all you do...pss...are you feeling better getting out of the mold? sure pray it is so.. :)
I love your blog! I love your life! You are all so amazing, and I love that you share your life with us. :)
