Diagnosis--failure to thrive.

I took Eston to the clinic today and the Dr. diagnosed him with "failure to thrive" and "marasmus."  He is said to be two+ years old but is nearly half the size of Enoch, who will be two in May.  After our trip to the clinic I decided to stop by the house and show all the children and Zane, Eston.   Zane was beside himself.  And the children were instantly in love.  Long story short, I called the director of the care home and asked if we could keep Eston..."Yes, and we'll talk about the details later."  Eston will need to be fed every hour or two during the day.  It will take time, but we believe the Lord to restore this precious soul.  I will post photos every few weeks so that you all can watch what the Lord is able to do!

*Sorry for the bad photo quality--our phone is the only camera we have right now*

He is too cute. When we were living in Ethiopia for 3 years, we "fostered"(and adopted :) a failure to thrive infant and toddler from the orphanage my daughters are from.

We found that rice cereal and peanut butter (very hard to find in Africa) helped fatten them up. We would add the rice cereal to their bottles or spoon feed it to them. The peanut butter was only for the toddler and he would eat it by the spoonful.

I don't know how malnourished he is but the orphanage recieved special formula from the UN for severly malnourished infants and toddlers. It is a formula only available in 3rd world countries and is packed with protein and calories (if I remember right it was like 38g of protien and 500 calories in every 8 oz bottle). We mixed this formula with pedialite to make it less thick.

AWESOME!!" I can give you the recipe for "plumpy nut" but I'd start him on high calorie milk first.... He needs good protein. email me if you need the info. Or google it like I did
:-)
Love you!!!

Thanks Robin! Yep, he is on the high calorie milk 5 times a day. He is a fairly good eater as it is, so that helps. He has survived (in the loose sense of the word) off of posho and beans--and one banana a week. I am always so amazed at how resilient these little ones are.

Love you too. Miss you.
