I enjoyed the discussion from the previous post...especially since everyone conducted themselves well! My heart hurts for the families struggling, for the children who are broken and hurting.

I feel like I am still at the start of our adoption journey. My two little blessings have been home for 15 months now. Before we came home I thought the hard part was getting them home. "If I could just get them home, everything will be smooth sailing". Boy, was I wrong! The getting them home was the easy part!

I know every family is different. But for our family, we spent the first 12 months together with little distractions. It was a good choice for our family. When we had been home about 6 months I felt like we weren't making very good progress in attachment because there were still many waves of difficulty. Someone encouraged me with this...

"It will take your children the same amount of time they were away from you to fully attach to you."

At first the thought of it all taking 4-5 years was a bit much. But then I saw the blessing in it.

Ezekial 34:15-16. "I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the Sovereign LORD. I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with justice."

I could rest in Him knowing that I was going to do my part and He would do His. Suddenly there was so much peace in my heart because the 'deadline' I had given us to gel as a family was gone. We continue to lean into Him as He continues to work in us.

My prayer is that we can all show love, encouragement and compassion towards one another as we each grow in the journey God is leading us on.
