Why do I do what I do?

“Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 3 But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly." Matthew 6:1-5

We may not sound our trumpets but we have modern ways of 'making ourselves (deeds) known.' The more I read other peoples blogs the more aware I am of my self--the ol' take the plank from your own eye before pulling the speck from your brothers.

Is my blog about me or is it about Jesus? Am I concerned with the number of followers I have or the number of comments that get left on a post?
Sometimes I wonder, and ask the Lord, if I need to stop blogging....yes, it can be a wonderful platform to encourage and exhort but it can also be come a place of self promotion, a "look what I am doing" stage. I suppose I am going to have to pray through this one, again! I surely do not want my blog to be a "street corner."

I can say, personally, that I would have never met you without your blog and I have been very encouraged by your family to seek the LORD more and read the Bible in a deeper way! I also love meeting missionaries in other countries so that we can pray for ya'll.
I do understand what your saying though...Jean wrote a great post on this thought called Why Am I Blogging at http://theresnoplacelikehome-family.blogspot.com/2009/04/why-am-i-blogging.html
Please don't stop...

Don't stop - although I fall into the same trap of "no one commented, I MUST have done something wrong" - "look how many people I HAVE reading this post" - it's still for HIS glory. Even when working it's way through our flawed selves. You, and other Christians like you, encourage others to do more, do speak out more, to risk more. "If she can do it with God's help, I can to!!" And look at the prayers that were able to be lifted up for your sweet angel!!

Summer, please do not stop blogging. I would miss you desperately! You have been an encouragement to me when I really needed to hear God's voice. He used you to speak to me.

You have brought me many smiles and comfort! The enemy would love for you to spend your time doing something else, please don't let him convince you that your motives are impure in any way.

Hugs,

C

Dear Summer,
I realize that you have to do what you feel God is leading you to do....but I, for one, have been very blessed by your blog and would be sad if you stopped writing! You've inspired me in my walk with God, in my mothering, and in missions.

Blessings~
